§1750.202. Minimum Curriculum Requirements

  • a)         The Board shall annually review the Correctional Basic Training Course to update and improve minimum basic training requirements.

     

    b)         In no event will the Correctional Basic Training Course be less than 200 hours of full-time study.  Full-time means that the course must be at least five consecutive weeks of training, averaging 40 hours of study per week.  At least one week of the Correctional Basic Training Course will be conducted at a Board-certified jail for on-the-job training.

     

    c)         The Board's mandated training course may be reviewed and modified at any time by the Board.  Nevertheless, the approved curriculum will include, but not be limited to, the following:

     

    1)         An Act in relation to firearms training for peace officers, (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1985, ch. 85, par. 515, et seq.), and amendments thereto;

     

    2)         A course in cardio-pulmonary resuscitation consistent with American Heart Association standards as found in Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation,  by the American Red Cross (1981, National Center, 7320 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, Texas 75231).  This incorporation includes no later amendments or additions;

     

    3)         A course in First Aid or emergency care;

     

    4)         Instruction on basic jail security principles;

     

    5)         Instruction on the legal rights of prisoners;

     

    6)         Instruction on self defense tactics;

     

    7)         Instruction on human behavior; and

     

    8)         Instruction on shakedown and physical search procedures.
